Osteopathy in Lower Sackville
Osteopathic manual therapy is a hands-on technique that involves the movement and manipulation of a person’s body to increase their overall health. This therapy is suitable for all ages, from newborn to 99 years old.
Who Can Benefit
Osteopathic manual therapy treats the full body and is recommended for all health conditions. Listed below are a few examples of conditions commonly seen in our clinic that have benefited from osteopathic care at Back To Health Chiropractic:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Headaches
- Digestive issues
- Obstetrics care
- Gynecology care
- Whiplash
- Concussion
- Sinus congestion
- Vertigo
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment. Doing so will allow time to complete the required paperwork. The front desk staff will take you through the clinic procedures before your first visit. Loose, light clothing is best, with as few zippers and pockets (minimal fabric texture) as possible. Please leave any jewelry at home.
You must be able to climb two flights of stairs to reach the osteopathic treatment room on the third floor. If you cannot climb stairs, we can arrange for your treatment to take place in one ground-floor treatment room. However, you must inform the front desk staff that you require a ground floor treatment when you book your appointment.
If you do not give us advance notice and you cannot make the stairs when you arrive for your appointment, we may not be able to accommodate you and your appointment will have to be rescheduled.
All appointments are 45 minutes long. On the first visit, the osteopath will take you up to the treatment room and spend the first 10-15 minutes speaking with you about your health concerns. The initial visit will include documenting your health history and performing an initial assessment along with an osteopathic manual treatment.
You will be encouraged to ask questions before and during the treatment. With your consent, treatment occurs on a therapeutic table and is led by the osteopath. You may need to sit or lie down in different positions on the table while the osteopath places their hands on you to treat your whole body.
We have an electric table that can move into different heights and positions to accommodate any mobility limitations. The osteopath will assess your health and perform techniques based on what they feel when they touch you. Osteopaths have an incredibly sensitive sense of touch that guides the treatment. Each session is unique and tailored specifically to what is happening in your body during your treatment.
Does Insurance Cover This Service?
The Nova Scotia Provincial Health Plan (MSI) does not cover osteopathic manual treatment. However, most private insurance plans cover this type of therapy. We are able to directly bill treatments with some insurance companies (Blue Cross, for example). For other plans we provide you with the proper receipt and paperwork. Our front desk team will help you find the answers to any questions you have about insurance billing.
